Rent Control Doesn't Work
When demand for apartments exceed available units for rent, then rents go up. The high rents encourage new apartments to be built. The building of new apartments eventually balances the supply and demand for apartments which keeps prices affordable.
Rent Control discourages the building of new apartments, which keeps demand greater than supply. Rent control also makes it harder for landlords to maintain their apartments which leads to mechanical and other problems that don't get fixed.
Socialists who push for rent control, due to the facts above, actually make things worse for residents.
